Is anyone up for some DIY?
Some time back I posted about creating a kopitiam corner at home. Well, I finally got my ‘authentic’ kopitiam cups & saucers with the green flower motifs. If you are interested, they are from Sia Huat at about $2 a set. Buy 6, and you can get the boxed set which is easier to carry.
Anyway the reason why I mentioned ‘modern’ in my title is cos I think it’ll be fab if someone can combine the ombre technique demonstrated in this great DIY post by Design Sponge, and the standard kopitiam chair. I can almost visualize it… yummilicious!
By the way, going to Sia Huat is an experience by itself. Quite fun to observe the crowd cos it seems to mainly comprise people from the food industry. 🙂 Once you find the item that you want, grab hold of a staff to key in your order into a hand held terminal, and your item will be sent down from the warehouse in about 5 min. E.g. we spent a good 20 min wandering around the store but in the end we got the cups simply by asking a staff who confirmed that there is none on display. I guess the humble kopitiam cup is so ubiquitous that there is no need to display any. Sia Huat has 2 versions of the kopitiam cup by the way – the more modern looking white version that you see in my earlier post, and the retrolicious green flower motifed one which we got. Nort sure why there is only one flower on the cup tho – doesn’t it usually come with two? Hmm…
