Places to buy home accessories & decorations

Meant to do this list eons ago, but have been (and still am, sigh!) super busy at work.  List making is time-consuming.  Started with 20 but the list just grew, so learning from experience, no numbers assigned this time!

By the way the list is in no particular order of preference.  Just lazy to order it alphabetically.  And it’s a mix of small little boutique stores, online stores and huge department stores.

1. IKEA

Definitely worth a visit if you have a new home… am sure you’ll walk away with something, even if it’s just the yummy hotdog combo.

317 Alexandra Road, Singapore 159965 & 60 Tampines North Drive 2, Singapore 528764

.

2. Typo

My only quibble is that this store is too small, and always crowded when I go. Really cute stuff from Australia that moves fast so don’t hesitate if you see something that you like – probably won’t be there the next time you go.

http://shop.cottonon.com/typo/ <— just for reference, no webby for Singapore!

435 Orchard Road, B1-54/61 Wisma Atria Shopping Centre S238877 / 67334761

4. atomi

Such lovely stuff from Japan.  Unfortunately with extremely ‘lovely’ prices to match.

5. ToTT Store

Ok, cheating a little but I suppose you could find kitchen accessories and decorations so ToTT stays. Love the range of kitchen stuff you can get.  Got my straw dispenser, chopsticks holder and a whole range of kitchen equipment from ToTT.

7. Department Stores – Takashimaya, Robinsons, Tangs, Parco Marina Bay

These have been highlighted here cos between them they have a pretty extensive and nice range of home accessories section.  They regularly have promotions and member sales too, which is great for some savings.  Brands include Qualy, Salt & Pepper, Suck UK, J-Me, Umbra, Alessi, Wild and Wolf, and many many more that I can’t remember.

9. King & King Wong

Haven’t been there actually, cos looking at the website I think the stuff may not fit my apartment’s theme, plus I don’t think I want to brave the famous Nex Mall crowd/traffic jam.  Good if you stay nearby or like the ornate stuff they have.  They are from Malaysia, so I suspect i’ll be cheaper to buy from Malaysia…

I actually really like their girly home accessories.  They have lights, wall art and some knick-knacks.  Worth a visit if you pop by Great World.

12. Egg3

You could pick up some nice stuff from the store. Just go in and browse if you pop by the building.  It’s in the same building as Grafunkt’s & White Wood’s flagship showrooms.

http://www.clutterism.com / http://www.facebook.com/Clutterism

.

15. Daiso

Everyone’s favorite $2 shop. Quality is sometimes iffy, but for $2, what the heck.

List of stores on Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/pages/Daiso-ダイソーSingapore/156436927712370

.

16. Salad Shop

Located at Haji Lane, so just amble along the lane and nearby stores when you are there.  The swedish restaurant nearby is not bad (and halal).

25/27 Haji Lane, Singapore 189218

6299-5805

.

17. Muji

My favorite japanese homeware store (for now, have to see if Francfranc’s more froufrou style surpasses). I have loads of their kitchen ware and I love their christmas gift selections. For minimalist/functionalist lovers.

See here for store listing: http://www.muji.com/sg/stores/

Don’t forget that you can see their catalog (with pricing!) before you go down: http://www.muji.com.sg/online-catalog

.

18. Gmarket.com.sg & eBay & Etsy & Taobao

Searching for stuff and finding reliable sellers is a challenge.  Otherwise it can be fun to browse the online offerings. For Taobao, you need a re-shipper. Haven’t tried the services personally so can’t recommend/don’t know how exactly, but do a simple Google search and you can find the info required online.

.

19. Style:Nordic

on 18 Feb’12: I’m not sure if the new store at Palais Renaissance is open.  The Delfi and Ann Siang stores are closed. Their website/facebook and blog is not updated. Very bad social/media update IMO. Almost tempted to remove this listing completely.

.

20. Stevie General Store

Not sure what stuff you’ll find. Seems to be a mish-mash but quirky enough to amuse me so it stays on the list.

21. Spin

Love the wares from Spin Ceramics 旋, the same ones from the Shanghai/Beijing stores.  Jingdezhen porcelain is described as being “white as jade, thin as paper, and as sweet sounding as a chime.”
